100x Good Soil
Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times."
– Mark 4:8
Last week, we discussed the principle of Sowing and Reaping— that we will reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7). This week, I want to take that one step further. If sowing determines the harvest…soil determines the multiplication.
This past week, Amy and I had the privilege of hosting the Heritage Forum Marriage Retreat at Pursell Farms alongside Greg Gunn from Family ID. We spent intentional time with couples helping them clarify and refine their family vision, mission, and values — building a legacy plan designed to bless generations to come. What those couples were doing was 100x sowing (planting)!
They were doing the hard work — prayerful, intentional, generational planning— so their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren might reap blessings long after they are gone. That is sowing into fertile soil. That is living with a multi-generational lens.
As leaders — in our families, businesses, and ministries — we must ask:Are we sowing into soil that produces 100x impact?
Guard the Soil of Your Own Heart: Before we talk about where we sow, we must examine who we are becoming. Jesus describes rocky and thorny soil: “Since they have no root, they last only a short time.”– Mark 4:17 “The worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things come in and choke the word.” – Mark 4:19. Rocky soil represents shallow roots. Thorny soil represents divided priorities. As leaders, success itself can become thorny soil — an opportunity, a source of growth, a responsibility, and wealth. None of these is wrong. But if they compete with our first priority – connection to the vine of Christ, they choke multiplication. The antidote is clear:“Seek first the Kingdom of God…” – Matthew 6:33100x fruit begins with deep roots and ordered priorities. “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5Abiding produces clarity and fertility. Fertility produces multiplication.
Be Strategic About Where You Sow: Not all soil multiplies equally. As business leaders, we understand ROI. But Kingdom leaders think in terms of EROI — Eternal Return on Investment. The couples attending the event at Pursell Farms this past week were sowing intentionally into their marriages, their children, their family culture, and their spiritual heritage. That kind of sowing compounds over decades. Scripture reminds us: “Whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6 Generosity is not only financial — it is intentional placement of seed. Where are you sowing your: Time, Attention, Mentorship, Capital, Leadership influence? Intentional and thoughtful sowing produces exponential fruit.
Think Generationally: God’s original design was multiplication: “Be fruitful and multiply.” – Genesis 1:28 100x fruit is rarely immediate. It compounds over time. The average family can have hundreds — even thousands — of descendants over multiple generations. What we model today spiritually, relationally, and financially will ripple far beyond our lifetime. We are either intentionally building generational blessing…“Choose life, so that you and your descendants may live.” – Deuteronomy 30:19. Or we are leaving a legacy to chance.
This is why I am so passionate about investing in things that will have Kingdom impact for generations to come, like Highlands College. As we sow into training and equipping the next generation of world class Kingdom leaders, we are investing in soil that multiplies across churches, cities, and nations with eternal impact— addressing one of the greatest challenges of our time: the leadership void we are facing in the Church. At minimum this is 100x soil; I could make the case that it is much greater than 100x!!!
Last week we talked about sowing and reaping. This week, we ask the deeper question: Is the soil we are sowing into the best and most fertile soil to produce the greatest Kingdom Impact? God promises multiplication in good soil: “He is able to do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine by His power at work within us.” – Ephesians 3:20 The multiplication is His responsibility. The intentionality of where we sow our seed is our responsibility. Let’s look to sow our seed into 100x soil.
Challenge Question: Where am I currently sowing my time, energy, and resources — and will that soil produce generational, eternal multiplication? 100x?
Prayer: Father, thank You for entrusting us with seed — our time, talent, influence, and resources. Search our hearts and remove any rocks or thorns that hinder fruitfulness. Give us wisdom to sow into soil that multiplies for generations. May our leadership, families, and investments produce 100x fruit for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let’s continue to sow our seed generously into the most fertile soil and be expectant for an amazing harvest for generations to come!
