Community (Better Together)

April 26, 20264 min read

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together... but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

– Hebrews 10:24 - 25

This weekend, we hosted our 4th Heritage Beginnings event at Rock Lake Farms. We had 15 amazing young leaders in attendance. Over the weekend, we had the opportunity to pour into these young men who were hungry to grow in their walk with the Lord. There are many reasons why we started this ministry as a spinoff of Heritage Forum for young leaders, typically ages 25–35, who are beginning their adult lives and in the early stages of building families and careers. The goal of the event it to help these young men build a solid foundation by knowing God, Finding Freedom, and discovering purpose, so they can make a Difference and live the abundant life God calls us to live. One of the key objectives for the weekend is to help these men connect with a strong community of like-minded, Kingdom-minded leaders who desire to live and lead for eternal impact. It was another powerful reminder of a foundational truth: We were not created to do life alone—we were created for Community.

Principles of Godly Community:

  • Community Is God’s Design for Growth and Identity: Community is simply “common unity”—people coming together around shared beliefs, values, and purpose. From the very beginning, God designed us for relationship—first with Him, and then with one another. So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”Romans 12:5We cannot fully become who God created us to be in isolation. Growth happens in the context of a relationship. The people we surround ourselves with will influence and shape: Our thinking, Our character, Our direction, and Our impact. As my friend John Maxwell says, “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.”

  • Community Provides Strength, Covering, and Accountability: Life will bring challenges—it’s not a matter of if, but when. The difference between thriving and struggling often comes down to who is walking alongside us.Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”Galatians 6 Godly community provides: Encouragement in difficult seasons, Accountability to stay on the right path, Truth spoken in love when we need it most. This is what I often refer to as a “Band of Brothers”—men who will stand with you in the fire, challenge you, and fight for you spiritually. We need other believers on this journey of life; we are stronger together!!

  • Community Is Life-Giving and Essential to Flourishing: True community encourages and strengthens us. It brings out the best in us while allowing us to contribute our God-given gifts to others.“Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up… A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 Research confirms what Scripture has always taught—community is essential to our mental, emotional, and spiritual health. But beyond health, community is where Joy is multiplied, Burdens are shared, and faith is strengthened. The abundant life God promises is not lived in isolation—it is experienced in community, and Christ centered relationships.

We can find community in many places—work, neighborhoods, teams—but those are incomplete without spiritual community. God’s design is clear: Remain connected to Jesus and live connected to other believers in community. For many of us, that starts with being plugged into a healthy local church and surrounding ourselves with people who are pursuing Christ and committed to growth. I have found that the greatest joy in life is walking alongside others who are on the same journey—encouraging one another, challenging one another, and building something that lasts together.

We really are better together!!!!!

Challenge Question: Who am I intentionally doing life with—and am I truly engaged in a community that is helping me grow in my faith, leadership, and purpose?

Prayer: Father, thank You for creating us for a relationship. Help us to step into an authentic, life-giving community. Surround us with people who will encourage us, challenge us, and walk with us in truth and love. Give us the courage to be vulnerable and the humility to grow. Use our relationships to strengthen our faith and expand our impact for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let’s lean into community this week—because life is better, stronger, and more impactful together.
